How to assign geographic coordinates, time zones, and icons to Label Values for use in map-based interfaces.
Overview
In Rayven, you can enrich Label Values with geographic metadata and visual icons. This is particularly useful for applications using the Map frontend node, where each marker corresponds to a Label Value. These settings are configured from the User Group page when applying a filter to restrict data access based on Label Values.
Each configured Label Value can be assigned a:
-
Time zone
-
Latitude and longitude
-
Layer name (for grouping on the map)
-
Icon (selectable from a library or uploadable)
These settings enhance your app’s interface by giving spatial and visual context to your data.
Accessing the Location & Icon Settings
-
Navigate to the Users section in your Workspace.
-
Select a User Group.
-
In the Filter User Group Data section, you'll see one or more label-based filters (e.g.
Region = ANZ
).
Click the arrow icon next to a label value to open the configuration panel for that value.
When expanded:
Assigning Map Metadata
Once inside the Edit UID Filter panel, you'll see the following fields after checking the box for "Assign Location to Label Value (For Use in Map Node)":
-
UID Time Zone: Assign the appropriate time zone for the label value. This setting is useful when displaying or filtering time-based data in interfaces or workflows.
-
Latitude & Longitude: These fields determine the exact location where this label value will be pinned on the map.
-
Layer Name: An optional setting to group or categorize markers on the map. Useful for multi-layer mapping or filterable layers in custom widgets.
-
Icon: Choose a visual marker that will appear on the map. You can either:
-
Select an icon from the library.
-
Upload a custom icon file.
-
Using Map Nodes with Label-Based Locations
Once you’ve configured location and icon metadata for a Label Value, you can use this information in a Map frontend node—but it’s not automatic. The Map node must be explicitly configured to reference label-based location data, rather than UID-based location.
-
Display a marker for each label value that has location metadata.
-
Use the assigned icon at the specified latitude/longitude.
-
Respect time zone differences for applications with real-time or time-sensitive workflows.
To ensure a seamless experience:
-
All relevant Label Values should have latitude and longitude assigned.
-
Icons should be clearly distinguishable when used together.
-
Be sure the user’s group filter includes the correct label value so they see the right markers.
Summary
The ability to assign location and icon metadata to Label Values lets you create rich, interactive map-based visualizations in Rayven. These settings are applied per Label Value and configured within the User Group filter settings. When paired with the Map node, these enhance usability and context in location-aware applications.
FAQs
Where do I configure map icon and location settings?
In the User Group filter section, click a label value to open its advanced settings. You’ll find location and icon options there.
What if I don’t assign a location?
The label value will not appear on the map. Only label values with defined latitude and longitude are rendered.
Can I use custom icons?
Yes. You can upload your own icon or choose one from the built-in icon library.
Do I need to assign a time zone?
It’s optional, but assigning a time zone is recommended when your application includes time-based data visualisations or workflows that rely on local times.
